Learn to restore teeth the way nature intended

Clinical training in biomimetic dentistry for dentists and dental therapists.

Dentistry to mimic nature

By mimicking the mechanical and biological properties of natural tooth tissue, it is possible to place restorations that last decades, cause significantly less post-operative sensitivity, and protect teeth from the cycle of repair and failure that characterises conventional approaches.

At The Gentle Touch, every dentist and dental therapist practises biomimetics. The practice is the largest fully biomimetic dental practice in the world and the only one in the UK. The Biomimetic Dental Programme is how Amber shares what her team has built with the dentists and therapists who want to do the same.

What makes this course different

Most continuing professional development teaches techniques. This programme teaches a different way of thinking about teeth: how to identify which ones are already at high risk, and then the techniques that follow from that diagnosis. Delegates leave not just with new skills, but with a new framework for diagnosis, treatment planning and patient communication that changes how they approach every patient they see from that day forward.

The course is taught by Amber and her associate dentists and therapists at The Gentle Touch, the only fully biomimetic dental team in the UK. Delegates observe live clinical work in a real practice environment. The theory is evidence-based, grounded in the Alleman Institute protocols that underpin everything the practice does. Courses are BSDHT-accredited.

What you will learn

Structurally compromised teeth often carry no symptoms until they break. Using measurable, objective criteria, delegates learn to identify which teeth are at high risk of fracture, how to photograph the evidence and share it with patients, and how to recommend protective treatment before the damage becomes irreversible. This single concept reframes how delegates view damaged teeth which results in a more proactive treatment philosophy.

The foundation of every biomimetic restoration. Why enamel and dentine bond differently, why the adhesive layer must be given time to mature, and how to build a restoration that integrates with the tooth structure rather than sitting on top of it.

Evidence-based layering, C-factor management, and the occlusal considerations that determine whether a restoration lasts five years or fifty. Delegates practice on typodont real extracted teeth before moving to live patient observation.

When direct composite is not the ideal solution, and how to carry out indirect restorations which restore teeth to their optimal strength and protection. This includes the permanent bio-base and why it matters.

Biomimetic treatment plans can feel unfamiliar to patients used to conventional dentistry. Delegates leave with language, photographs and explanations that make it easy to present this approach with clarity and conviction.

The Two Courses

// Level 1

Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry – Indirect

For dentists, although dental therapists may attend if interested to learn about indirect techniques.

// Level 2

Indirect and Complex Cases

For dentists only • Prerequisite: Level 1

Level 1: Indirect and Complex Cases

For dentists, although dental therapists may attend if interested to learn about indirect techniques.

Who is it for?

Dentists who have completed Level 1 and want to develop their skills in indirect restorations and complex case management. Completion of Level 1 is a prerequisite. Dental therapists may attend if interested to learn about indirect workflow.

Duration and location:

One day. The Corn Exchange, Kelso, immediately next door to The Gentle Touch. Dentists wishing to attend both levels may do so on consecutive days.

Course content:

  • Complex patient communication: presenting high-value treatment plans with honesty and confidence
  • Indirect onlays and overlays: when and why to choose indirect restoration
  • The bio-base concept: permanent dentine replacement and its clinical implications
  • Managing cracks at depth: navigation, decision-making and documentation
  • Deep margin elevation (DME) – when and how to utilise
  • Live observation of an onlay preparation at The Gentle Touch dental practice.
  • Laboratory communication: briefing your technician for biomimetic outcomes

Level 2: Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry – Indirect

Suitable for dentists and dental therapists

Who is it for?

Dentists and dental therapists seeking a thorough grounding in biomimetic principles and direct restorative techniques. No prior biomimetic training required.

Duration and location:

One day. The Corn Exchange, Kelso — located immediately next door to The Gentle Touch dental practice and owned by Amber and Matt Aplin. Live patient observation is entirely seamless, with delegates stepping next door at no disruption to the day.

Course content:

  • The biomimetic philosophy: why conventional dentistry falls short and what the evidence says
  • Red flag diagnosis: identifying high-risk teeth using measurable, objective criteria
  • Caries detection and removal: the caries dye protocol and why visual assessment alone is insufficient
  • Immediate dentine sealing: the science and the technique
  • C-factor and cavity geometry: designing preparations that minimise shrinkage stress
  • Layered composite placement: evidence-based technique for direct restorations
  • Occlusal considerations: ensuring restorations that are not just well-bonded but biomechanically sound
  • Live observation at The Gentle Touch: observing clinical work in a fully biomimetic practice, steps away from the training room
  • Patient communication: presenting biomimetic treatment plans with confidence

Tab 3

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. The graphic and typographic operators know this well, in reality all the professions dealing with the universe have a stable relationship with these words, but what is it? Lorem ipsum is a dummy text without any sense.

If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making the first true on the Internet.

Key Benefits

Learn the science and techniques that deliver consistently better outcomes

Eliminate post-operative sensitivity and the uncertainty that comes with conventional approaches

Help patients keep their natural teeth and avoid the escalating cycle of repair and replacement

Identify high-risk teeth before they become symptomatic, using measurable red flag criteria.

Taught by Amber and her team at the only fully biomimetic practice in the UK

Delivered from The Corn Exchange, Kelso

The way Amber teaches biomimetic dentistry changed how I think about every restoration. It’s not about speed. It’s about respect for the tooth.

Thank you so much, Amber. Genuinely the best course I’ve attended, for so many reasons, so well thought out in every aspect, you were all so welcoming and huge thanks to everyone involved.”

I know what long-lasting, predictable dentistry looks like. The harder question is how the wider profession gets there, within a system that was never designed to support it.

The question I always come back to is: how do we move towards dentistry that is long-lasting and predictable, and move away from the idea that it always has to be dentist-led?
