The Dentistry Show

13th May 2026 // by Amber Aplin

Thank you for finding me

If you’re reading this, you scanned a QR code at the end of my presentation at The Dentistry Show, and I’m really glad you did.

I hope the session with Kuraray gave you something useful to take back to your practice. Whether you came away with one idea, or a completely different perspective on restorative dentistry, that’s great!

For updates on further training opportunities with me, biomimetic dentistry, therapist-led care and my professional news, please sign-up for my newsletter.

What I talked about

At The Gentle Touch, my practice in Kelso in the Scottish Borders, we’ve built a fully biomimetic practice, which means every clinical decision, every material choice, every protocol is built around preserving tooth structure and mimicking the tooth’s function, rather than working against it.

We are also, as far as I know, the only fully private therapist-led dental practice in the UK. In January 2025 we transitioned fully to a therapist led care model, and the results in the first year alone were extraordinary. Onlay income grew by 66.7%. Total practice income rose by 25%. Clinician income per working day increased across every single dentist. And we did it while carrying out fewer procedures overall.

Fewer procedures. More enjoyable dentistry. Higher income. A better working life for everyone in the practice.

I teach both of these things: biomimetic restorative dentistry for dentists, and therapist-led care for practice owners and their therapy teams, through my education brand amber // APLIN, based at The Corn Exchange adjoining the practice.

How to keep close to the conversation

I have just launched a newsletter, and the first issue contains something I think you will find useful: a step-by-step biomimetic workflow for the direct posterior composite restoration. Not a theoretical overview, but the actual clinical sequence that all clinicians use at The Gentle Touch. From pre-treatment considerations, cavity preparation through to immediate dentine sealing, the adhesive protocol, layering strategy, C-factor management, and occlusal finishing. The steps that, done correctly, give you a restoration that is likely to last for decades and will likely be permanent.

It is free and applicable to everyday practice. And it is exactly the kind of content I wish had existed when I was learning this way of working. If that sounds like something you want in your inbox – subscribe below!

I look forward to my content being useful to you.
